I know old trucks had large tailgate lettering (as in 70's fords like someone else commented) but I think it’s the overall aesthetic in this case. Big, tall, flashy truck with lots of other chrome trim, and those letters. Man, those aren’t a nice font like the old FORD letters. They’re just gigantic, stretched and squashed and BOLD Arial font RAM. And I think the combination just makes it obnoxious to a new level.
